Description

It is with immense proud that Forge de Laguiole presents this knife, the fruit of ancestral know-how rooted in the village of Laguiole and now recognised by the official ‘Couteau de Laguiole’ geographical indication label. This state label guarantees that this knife has been manufactured according to strict specifications, in a specific geographical area, and in accordance with tradition. At Forge de Laguiole, each knife comes to life in the hands of our cutlers, from the forging of the blade to the finishing touches on the handle, all carried out exclusively in our workshop.

This unique model embodies this deep commitment: its 12 cm handle is crafted from subfossil oak that is over 5,000 years old, extracted from the Rhine river, a noble wood that has stood the test of time and which we have chosen to enhance in order to pay tribute to history. Its blade, hot-forged from French steel, offers remarkable cutting quality, reflecting the excellence we stand for. True to the rural origins of this iconic knife, we have replaced the traditional shepherd's cross with an ancient diamond shape, reminiscent of the first Laguiole knives made for farmers, which once symbolised the rosary. The Saint Andrew's cross, chiselled above the blade, echoes a motif that was once found on first Laguiole knives. A symbol of protection, it pays tribute to André, one of the first doms of Aubrac, whose coat of arms featured two crossed pilgrim's staffs.

As most of the materials used are of natural origin, their appearance (colour, veining, grain) is likely to vary from one item to another.
The photos on our official online shop are not contractually binding.

Our Forge de Laguiole knives has been hand-made in our manufactory in Laguiole, France, according to the knife-making tradition dating back to 1828.
